Victoria Crowned Australia’s Top Lotto State
The State of Victoria is Australia’s luckiest state, according to a report released by Tatts.com, which shows that Victorians won more Division One Lotto jackpots than players from any other states over the last year.
Tatt’s Lotto Hotspots study examined statistical data from the period spanning December 1, 2005 to November 30, 2016, in an effort to find the locations that most often sold winning tickets. The study revealed that 156 Division One jackpot winning tickets were sold in Victoria, ahead of New South Wales which sold 117 and Queensland which sold 99.
Victorian winners took home $244.6 million in 503 Division One prizes, accounting for 30 percent of prizes awarded throughout the country in the last year.
“Reflecting back on the year, there’s certainly a number of division one winning stories from 2016 that have really resonated with people,” stated Elissa Lewis, a spokesperson from Tatts.
“Victoria kicked off its winning year in February when it claimed twin wins in Set for Life with consecutive, back to back first prize wins of $20,000 each month for 20 years won in draw 197 and 198 won in Churchill and Irymple – by a hobby fisherman and a green thumb. After an intensive three day search in May, a $40 million Oz Lotto prize was claimed by a married couple from Victoria’s dairy farming town of Leongatha.”
While, the study revealed that the winning tickets for Division One prizes were most frequently sold in Metropolitan Melbourne, Lewis and Tatts were quick to point out that the lotteries are games of chance and that each ticket has an equal chance of winning, regardless of where it is bought.
In fact, just days after the study was released, a player from Western Australia won the $10 million Division One jackpot.
