The Reef Hotel Casino Opens its New Bar 36
The Reef Hotel Casino in Cairns opened its new Bar 36 cocktail lounge as part of their ongoing $6.5 million refurbishment of the casino’s ground floor. The stylish new bar is the first of a number of new unveilings the casino is planning for the coming weeks.
Bar 36, the cocktail lounge and live music venue with its giant television screen, large stage and modern audiovisual system, replaces the Vertigo Cocktail Bar & Lounge. Executive Marketing Manager for the Reef Hotel and Casino, Carol McFarlane, told The Cairns Post newspaper that the new venue aims to deliver “all levels of entertainment.”
“We are trying to appeal to a wider demographic than before. It has always been a live music venue, but we want to extend on that. We want to deliver a great entertainment experience for the locals who have been loyal to us for so long and a ‘wow’ factor for the visitors,” Ms McFarlane continued.
Among refurbishments to the ground floor of the casino, a new Merchant cafe is set to open before Christmas while the Tamarind Restaurant and the lobby are being upgraded. The centrepiece for the ground floor will be an LED pillar designed alongside an interactive floor that will depict the natural wonders of the region.
According to hotel general manager, Wayne Reynolds, the current upgrades are the most significant undertaken by the casino in years and they will be completed by FKG Group. However, these upgrades come only four years after the casino completed a $2.5 million refurbishment of their second floor.
“If you want to maintain a reputation as a market leader, it is crucial to reinvest in yourself,” stated Reynolds.
The Reef Hotel Casino has maintained 90 percent occupancy rates in November, with December looking similar.
