Racing.com Extends Coverage of New Zealand Racing
New Zealand thoroughbred racing will now be broadcast in Australia throughout Autumn after Racing.com has extended their pilot coverage of broadcasting the events on Australian free-to-air television.
The deal was agreed between Racing.com and the New Zealand Racing Board (NZRB), the statutory body for the New Zealand racing industry, and New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR), the governing body of New Zealand’s thoroughbred code. The extension was signed after the success of the first five race meetings that were broadcast and will include an additional five premium races to be broadcast for an Australian audience. These are all races being run in March and April this year.
“It’s great to see some of New Zealand’s iconic races will be seen on Australian free-to-air television,” stated Dr Alan Jackson, chairman of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing.
“These races have a proven record of producing Australasian thoroughbred ‘starpower’, with the likes of Mongolian Khan, Ocean Park, Jimmy Choux, Habibi, Silent Achiever, Rising Romance, Tavago and Sofia Rosa just some of the many fabulous horses that have emerged from these races in recent years.”
The five additional premium race meetings will be broadcast on Racing.com free-to-air channels 78 and 68. Through the joint venture partnership between Racing Victoria and Seven West Media, their broadcasts are available via channel 78 (metropolitan), channel 68 (regional) and via Foxtel channel 529 and the digital platform of Racing.com.
“We are all really pleased that NZTR and NZRB are happy with the positive wagering and audience benefits that have come from the nationwide free-to-air broadcast of the first five race meetings,” said Andrew Catterall, chief executive of Racing.com.
“We’ve had very positive feedback from our viewers and we look forward to expanding the pilot to the next five feature days.”
