Lottoland Awarded Australia’s First Online Lottery Betting License
Gibraltar-based International lottery broker, Lottoland, has been granted the first online lottery betting license in Australia. The five-year license granted by the Northern Territory Racing Commission will allow the company to offer odds on the outcomes of state and International lotteries throughout Australia.
“We are setting the pace, carving out a world-leading position in this new and exciting category of online gaming,” commented Nigel Birrell, chief executive of Lottoland. “Lottoland is well positioned to accelerate its already phenomenal growth through continued product innovation and by expanding its International reach through securing a license in Australia.”
Lottoland, which was only launched three years ago and already has a customer base of around 2 million and offers odds on some of the biggest International lotteries around the world. Customers currently have a choice from 28 products including EuroMillions, EuroJackpot, the US’s MegaMillions and PowerBall and Spain’s El Gordo de Verano.
“Lottoland offers unrivalled choice – every day we have a different game and a chance for customers to become multi-millionaires and now welcome the opportunity to make our unique offer available to customers across Australia in the first quarter of this year.”
The Australian business will be headquartered in Darwin and Sydney and will be run by Luke Brill, previously managing director of Betfred Australia.
Just last month, a 5-strong syndicate in Germany won a €4 million jackpot with a bet placed via Lottoland on Spain’s El Gordo lottery. This new deal is good news for Australians especially as America’s biggest Powerball Jackpot ever, with a prize pool of USD1.3 billion is soon to be drawn. The winner, after tax, will walk away with USD880 million which is about AUD1.2 billion.
