CrownBet and ClubsNSW Sign Partnership Deal
James Packer’s Crown Resorts is set to sign a ground-breaking deal with ClubsNSW that will see TAB’s monopoly ending on in-venue betting. The deal will allow punters in pubs and clubs to place online bets through Crown Resorts’ online wagering business, CrownBet.
This deal is the first major step in Packer’s strategy to increase its market share in the online gambling market, which he outlined as a priority when he came back to the Crown Board at the beginning of the year.
The deal is expected to be a significant blow to Tabcorp which relies heavily on its revenue from in-venue betting, but has been pushing to encourage digital betting through the development of its digital wagering services. It also recently announced an incentives program for pubs and clubs whose customers place bets in-venue via digital services.
However, Anthony Ball, chief executive of ClubsNSW said that more than 90 percent of their 1,200 clubs had been losing money on their TAB facilities and that this switch to CrownBet will result in an upgrade in facilities.
“Our arrangement with CrownBet will ensure all NSW clubs get their fair share from digital bets and will help ensure the industry’s long-term viability,” said Ball.
CrownBet is expected to create a unique app for club punters and clubs are likely to be offered an incentive to sign up members by receiving a commission on all bets placed through the app. Punters will also have access to the CrownBet rewards program, allowing punters to redeem points at club venues, including at their restaurants and cafes.
“We’re thrilled to receive this groundbreaking endorsement from ClubsNSW,” announced Matt Tripp, chief executive of CrownBet. “Our plan is to change the entire wagering experience for the benefit of their members and guests.”
