Australian Rugby Union Partners with Opta Data Provider
The governing body of the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) has signed a partnership deal with sports content and media group, Perform. Under the terms of the agreement, Perform’s data and statistics subsidiary, Opta, will become the official provider for the ARU.
Throughout the four-year partnership, Opta data will become available across the entire network of websites, mobile apps and social media to provide live scores and insights using statistical data. In addition, the ARU will be able to use the OptaPro professional services division which will provide performance data for teams and players to the Wallabies and Australian Super Rugby teams.
The ARU will be able to access Opta’s databases for global rugby including international match data, major global domestic leagues and the Sevens World Series. Opta Pro can power a comprehensive range of analytic products and services to allow the teams to analyse their opponent’s performance, improve their own performance and recruit new talent.
“Perform’s global capabilities provide us with unrivalled access to Opta data that will offer us an added edge,” said Ben Whitaker, general manager for high performance at the ARU.
“We can track and analyse player performance around the world and with the Wallabies about to commence their 2016 campaign and the Rugby Sevens competing for the first time at the Olympics in Rio this year, our coaching team and players will be well equipped for these exciting international competitions.”
Perform will also be able to use data in unique ways to increase the ARU’s exposure, as well as creating commercial sponsorship opportunities for them.
“Data is becoming increasingly important on and off the field for sporting organisations,” stated Alex Peebles, executive vice president for Perform Asia-Pacific. “Harnessing this data and providing actionable insight to players and coaches is becoming essential to high performance.”
